About AYCADO

An organization built around what young people are not being given.

AYCADO exists because education, on its own, rarely produces professional capability. We build the practice, experience and mentorship that turn learning into ability.

Who we are

Africa Youth Career Development Organization.

AYCADO (Africa Youth Career Development Organization) is a youth-focused professional and skills development organization committed to helping young people develop practical knowledge, professional skills, hands-on experience and the confidence needed to thrive in today’s world.

The organization was founded in March 2024 by James Ruzii Gonwokay, who serves as Founder & Chief Executive Officer. It works with young people through training, workshops, seminars, practical learning sessions, mentorship programs and youth-focused projects, delivered both online and in person.

We bridge the gap between education and employment through training, mentorship, experience and real-world opportunities.

Why we exist

Education should open the door to experience.

Education should not end with academic knowledge. Young people also need practice, experience, professional competencies, mentorship, exposure, real-world projects and confidence before they can compete for and hold meaningful opportunity.

Too often, capable young people finish their studies and discover that the skills being asked of them were never part of their preparation: how to communicate under pressure, work in a team, manage a deliverable, present an idea, or conduct themselves professionally.

AYCADO was established to address that gap deliberately rather than incidentally.

“Learning becomes practical experience and practical experience becomes professional capability.”

Core philosophy

Our approach

Four stages, deliberately sequenced.

Learn → Practice → Experience → Develop → Advance. Every AYCADO program sits somewhere on this progression, and each stage is designed to feed the next.
  1. 01

    Learning

Structured knowledge, professional training and guided instruction that build a dependable foundation.

  2. 02

    Practice

Exercises, simulations and guided application that turn understanding into working ability.

  3. 03

    Experience

Projects, workshops and collaborative work where young people take responsibility for real outcomes.

  4. 04

    Capability

Professional competence, confidence and evidence of what a young person can genuinely do.

Our vision

To become a leading African youth career and professional development organization that equips young people with the skills, experience, confidence and opportunities necessary to build meaningful careers and contribute to sustainable development across Africa.

Our mission

To empower young people and young adults through accessible, practical and relevant career development, professional training, skills-building, mentorship, experiential learning and development opportunities that prepare them for employment, entrepreneurship, leadership and meaningful participation in society.

Our core values

Eleven commitments that govern how we work.

These are working standards rather than slogans: they determine what we will and will not do in our programs and our conduct.
01
Integrity & Accountability
We work with honesty, transparency and fairness. Trust is earned through consistent action, and we take responsibility for our achievements and our shortcomings alike.
02
Excellence & Professionalism
Excellence does not mean perfection. It means work that is thoughtful, relevant, reliable and professionally executed, from the design of a session to the management of a partnership.
03
Practical Learning
Knowledge becomes more valuable when people have the opportunity to use it. Participants practise, solve real problems, receive feedback and reflect on their development.
04
Empowerment & Self-Determination
We help young people recognise their abilities and take responsibility for their futures. We do not create dependency or treat participants as recipients of assistance.
05
Inclusion, Equity & Human Dignity
Opportunity should not be determined by where a person comes from or what resources they began with. We widen access while treating every participant with dignity and respect.
06
Innovation & Practical Problem-Solving
We think creatively, question ineffective approaches and experiment responsibly. Innovation matters when it creates real value for participants, communities and partners.
07
Collaboration & Shared Growth
Meaningful youth development cannot be achieved alone. We value cooperation in which people and institutions contribute their strengths toward shared objectives.
08
Opportunity & Professional Exposure
Capability becomes more powerful when it is connected to real opportunity. We work to reduce the distance between a young person's potential and the places it can be demonstrated.
09
Stewardship & Responsible Use of Resources
Funds, information, facilities, relationships and public trust are entrusted to us for a purpose. They are managed carefully, transparently and toward our mission.
10
Continuous Growth & Lifelong Development
Development does not end with a certificate or a first job. This applies to AYCADO as much as to participants: we must keep learning, adapting and improving.
11
African Potential & Positive Impact
We approach youth development from a position of possibility rather than deficit, recognising the creativity, intelligence, ambition and resilience of young Africans.

Guiding principles

How we are expected to work, not only what we deliver.

Our principles shape every engagement with young people, partners, professionals, educators, employers and communities. They set the standards by which we build relationships, make decisions and improve our contribution to youth development.
Excellence
High professional standards in programmes, communication, partnerships, administration and participant engagement, with a commitment to improving over time.
Practical Learning
Learning extends beyond information to practice, experimentation, problem-solving, professional exposure and real-world experience.
Empowerment
Strengthening the capacity of young people to make informed choices, take initiative and pursue opportunities for themselves.
Innovation
Questioning assumptions and developing practical responses to needs that continue to change.
Integrity
Consistency between commitments and actions, responsible use of resources, and a willingness to acknowledge mistakes.
Inclusion
Attention to the barriers that prevent people from participating fully, and practical steps to make opportunities more accessible.
Collaboration
Relationships built on mutual respect, shared purpose, complementary strengths and open communication.
Lifelong Development
Continuous learning, reflection and professional development remain important at every stage of a career.
Responsibility
Meeting commitments, respecting agreed standards and understanding the effect our actions have on others.
Respect & Dignity
Every participant takes part without being belittled, exploited or treated as less capable because of their circumstances.
Evidence & Reflection
Using feedback, observation, research and experience to examine our work and improve it, rather than relying on assumptions.
Opportunity with Purpose
Opportunities should build knowledge, skills, confidence and networks, not simply provide short-term participation.
Sustainability
Building relationships, systems and capabilities that continue producing value beyond a single activity or funding cycle.

Strategic direction

A connecting platform, built deliberately.

To grow as a practical, inclusive and learning-oriented youth development and opportunity platform that connects young people with the people, institutions, experiences, knowledge and resources they need to move from learning to application, from application to competence, and from competence to opportunity.

AYCADO's direction is guided by the understanding that no single institution can provide everything a young person needs to navigate education, career development and professional life. Meaningful development requires relationships across different parts of society.

For that reason AYCADO intends to position itself as a connecting platform between young people, educators, employers, professionals, entrepreneurs, institutions and communities, and to grow deliberately rather than pursuing scale for its own sake.

  • Practical programme delivery

A coherent learning ecosystem rather than unrelated events, with quality and participant experience treated as standards rather than aspirations.

  • A connecting platform

Bridges between young people and educators, employers, professionals, entrepreneurs, institutions and development partners.

  • Widening access

Reaching young people beyond major cities, those balancing study with work, and those without professional networks to draw on.

  • Learning organisation

Listening to young people, examining what works, and adapting when evidence or circumstances require it.

  • Institutional strength

Governance, administration, financial stewardship and safeguarding developed in proportion to the organisation's size and responsibilities.

  • Responsible growth

Expansion into new communities, sectors and partnerships only where institutional capacity supports it.

How AYCADO is organised

Governance, leadership and the functions that carry the work.

AYCADO separates governance from management. Governance provides direction, oversight and accountability; management leads day-to-day delivery within that direction.

As an emerging organisation, AYCADO operates as a lean institution in which leadership, staff, volunteers, consultants, mentors and partners may carry several responsibilities. The structure described here is the organisation's target model, developed progressively as capacity grows rather than imposed ahead of it.

Authority is delegated with responsibility, decisions can be explained, and matters that carry risk to participants or to the organisation are escalated rather than absorbed.

Governing principle

Board oversight
Provides institutional direction, approves major commitments, and holds the organisation accountable for its purpose, resources and conduct.
Executive leadership
Led by the Founder and Chief Executive Officer, working as a coordinated team responsible for strategy, programmes, operations and institutional standards.
Functional areas
Programmes, career development, skills, mentorship, partnerships, communications, research, digital, finance, people, compliance and safeguarding.
Delivery network
Facilitators, mentors, professionals, volunteers and partner institutions who contribute directly to participant development.

Functional areas

The capabilities through which programs are delivered.

These are AYCADO's target functions. Several are currently combined within a small team, and will develop into dedicated areas as the organisation grows.
  • Programs, Learning & Development

Designs and delivers AYCADO's learning experiences, curriculum, session structures and facilitation standards so activities form one coherent pathway.

  • Career Development & Employability

Prepares young people for education-to-work transitions: applications, interviews, professional communication, career planning and employer exposure.

  • Skills Development & Training

Builds practical competencies through progression rather than one-off training, and updates content as skills needs change.

  • Mentorship & Professional Experience

Develops mentor networks, internships, placements, job shadowing and practical assignments, with appropriate structure and supervision.

  • Partnerships & Resource Mobilization

Develops institutional relationships and support that expand what young people can access beyond AYCADO's own capacity.

  • Communications, Media & Public Engagement

Represents AYCADO responsibly and consistently, treating communication as part of accountability rather than promotion alone.

  • Research, Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

Generates evidence on needs, delivery and outcomes so decisions and programme design are informed rather than assumed.

  • Digital Learning & Technology

Extends learning and participation online, and supports the systems the organisation depends on.

  • Finance, Grants & Administration

Provides budgeting, records, controls, procurement and logistics proportionate to a lean and developing institution.

  • People & Human Resources

Supports recruitment, onboarding, roles, performance, development and volunteer coordination.

  • Legal, Compliance & Risk

Maintains appropriate obligations, agreements and risk awareness as the organisation's responsibilities grow.

  • Safeguarding & Participant Protection

Treated as a shared organisational responsibility, not the function of one individual or department.

Institutional standards

What participants and partners can expect from us.

These standards apply across every program, whether delivered online or in person, and are the basis on which we ask young people and institutions to trust us.
Safeguarding & participant protection
Programmes are delivered in environments where participants are treated with dignity and respect, professional boundaries are maintained, concerns can be raised, and situations that place anyone at risk are addressed.
Accountability & transparency
Responsibilities are clearly understood, resources are documented, decisions can be explained, and results are open to assessment by participants, partners and supporters.
Programme quality
Sessions are prepared, facilitated and reviewed against defined standards, with participant feedback used to improve delivery.
Confidentiality & information care
Participant information is handled with care and used only for the purposes for which it was provided.
Fair and transparent participation
Different starting points are recognised while selection, standards and expectations remain fair and clearly communicated.
Learning and improvement
Both successes and shortcomings are examined, and approaches are adjusted where evidence indicates a better way of working.

Our commitment

A commitment to Africa's youth, and a long-term goal.

AYCADO is committed to remaining accessible, practical and relevant to young people across Africa — including those outside major cities, those balancing study with work, and those without professional networks to draw on.

Our long-term goal is to develop into a sustainable African platform for youth skills development, career preparation, professional exposure, experiential learning and opportunity creation.

That means building carefully rather than quickly: honest about where we are, deliberate about what we deliver, and serious about the standard young people deserve.
